There are many different types of holiday cards, from religious to secular and green to value the choices are many. There are even cards made specifically for businesses. The business holiday cards are created with specific business needs in mind, allowing them to serve more purposes that simply carrying a holiday greeting. When deciding whether or not to send holiday cards, or choosing which ones to send and who to send them to, it can help to understand the differences in these cards and standard holiday cards. They include how they are ordered, how they are chosen, their intent, and who they are sent to.
The first difference in business holiday cards and other holiday cards is that they are typically special ordered in bulk. They are most often all exactly the same, with the design and message customized for the business. The customization may include a customized message, or be limited to a logo or business name included in a prominent location on the cards. This makes them more cost effective and useful for the business, allowing them to serve the dual purpose of showing appreciation and care for customers as well as promoting the business.
There also differences in how they should be chosen. For example, when choosing business holiday cards, the beliefs and tastes of the company should be considered rather than the personal beliefs and tastes of the individual or individuals choosing the cards. Not only this, but the beliefs and tastes of the customers receiving the cards should also be taken into consideration. If the company prefers a more classic design and one of those responsible for choosing cards lean more toward the flashy side, the company whose name will be on the cards will probably take precedence. With so many options, choosing cards can be overwhelming.
Lastly, business holiday cards differ in their intent. While they are a nice gesture, at their core the general intent of a business sending a holiday card is to strengthen the company. This is a game changer somewhat, in that more consideration has to be given to who will receive a card and how the card will be received than is the case with a personal card. It is important to be consistent with who receives cards from year to year, and if a change is warranted it is a better choice to either add to the list, or cut cards all together. Cutting some people off the list while leaving others on could leave a bad taste in the mouths of some.
