This process is known as galling and it happens due to the exposure of the chromium layer on the surface of the steel for a short time before fastening. Carbon is used to reinforce the steel compound. It is heat treated to make it strong and hard so that it will be able to withstand more stress and ultimately turn out to be finer elements. Depending upon the fastening needs and different fastening jobs, a wide range of are used. Thanks to the invention of these stainless metals, the fasteners became a widespread and inexpensive reality.
