Inner Light

Author : Brikene Bunjaku

Finding the light.

Across the wooden bridge there is path lined by trees. All around me birds chirp and squirrels climb the majestic tall trees. The wild flowers grow on the fields on each side of the path and when the soft breeze caresses my face I can smell the pines and the salty sea. I keep walking up that path warmed by the sunshine, entranced by the sights, soothed by the sounds.

Up ahead I see a round stone house with mossy stairs and an arched doorway leading into a room that is calming and cool. On my right the stained glass windows open to a garden exploding with colour, allowing the sun to shine in and infuse light to the dark. I look around at the wonderful symbols lining the walls and it then that I see the figure sitting on the bench by the window. I can only see the outline of her shape against the bright sunlight, but I know who she is. She asks me to join her on the seat and I feel her smiling at me, and she asks me to extend my hand because she has something for me. I open my palm and she drops something on my hand, I can’t see it but I know my soul recognizes it.

It is small and big, bright and cold, shiny and blinding, calming and energizing. I know what I have to do with it, even though I still haven’t seen it. I open my palm and my mind can’t understand what it sees, but my heart knows what it is. I feel its warmth creeping up my hand enveloping me in light, making me feel light. I know what I have to do with the gift, but I waver for a bit and I look at her and I soundlessly ask, what her message is? “Believe in yourself, take in the light. The dark has receded, leaving so much space behind. Fill yourself with love and shine it all around, you will feel loved, you will fill the dark”. I take the tiny seed that is blinding me with its icy warmth and I absorb it in my body, I feel it filling the void. Warmth pulses through my veins, illuminating my body and surrounding my brain. I can feel myself growing, I can feel my heart beat, I can feel the love spilling around me, I can finally FEEL.

We are still sitting on the bench and it is time for me to leave, so I thank her for the gift and I tell her stay in her seat. At the door I turn to wave for a final goodbye, but I know it’s just the beginning and I will see her again. I start walking back through the tree lined path, sharing my light with the trees, giving my warmth to the breeze, feeling the song of the birds trilling inside me. Everything seems brighter, louder, warmer and kinder, and I was given only a seed. I must nurture it and grow it, and share it when it’s time. However, for now it is all mine.
