Boy dog names can be a lot of fun to come up with. Don’t waste a single second being confused or overwhelmed at the prospect of coming up with one, when there are so many resources to help you in your search.
There are websites that can steer you in the right direction. You may feel buried by the possibilities when you access lists of hundreds of names, but you can simply narrow your search down by your dog’s specific breed or size.
These websites can even be a lot of fun after your doggy has dubbed. You can upload cute photos or your pup, or submit your own creative ideas for names. It’s fun to see what other people think of your suggestions. This is especially useful if you haven’t given the little boy a name yet, and are looking for feedback on some prospects.
You can also look to the other many, many sources of inspiration that surround you every day. People, television, movies, literature. The possibilities are endless.
You probably know other people who have dogs. You may not want to recycle the names they used, but you can ask what some of the runners up were. And people don’t have to have pets to be able to give you some ideas. Ask around, and see what your friends and family members suggest.
Television and movies can provide an ocean of ideas. There are famous dogs, like Wishbone, a Jack Russell Terrier that had his own show, or Benji, the classical shaggy dog that starred in his own movie. These names are sure to bring a rush of smiles and memories to your friends when you announce the name you’ve chosen.
Gleaning boy dog names from literature is also a possibility. Boots may sound like a cute, generic name, but it’s also the name of the dog narrator in Rudyard Kipling’s, Thy Servant a Dog. When someone asks what you call your dog, you can stand a few inches taller, raise one eyebrow, and explain that it was penned by one of the greatest English poets. And you might as well say it with a British accent.
Think of the things that make your pet stand out from others.’ These one of a kind attributes will give you a wealth of inspiration, and help you come up with really great names. Naming your dog this way is fun, because the name has been custom designed for him. When someone asks you about the name, you won’t just shrug your shoulders and say you thought it sounded cool. It’ll be an opportunity to point out some of the funny and unique qualities about your furry companion.
For instance, what are some of your dog’s personality quirks that make him unique? It can be entertaining trying to match them up with people you know that have some of the same qualities. For instance, is your pup very energetic and spastic? Maybe he reminds you of Patrick, that red headed boy that sat behind you in math class years ago. And now, all of a sudden, you have a potential name.
What are some of your canine’s physical features that really set him apart? Does he have a splash of black across his upper lip, like a little mustache? Maybe this reminds you of Charlie Chaplain. Or maybe he looks like he’s wearing socks on all of his paws, and you could name him Socks.
You should never feel stumped when it comes to finding boy dog names. If anything, there’s only the potential to feel overwhelmed at the prospect of having to rummage through all the possibilities. That’s when it’s best to decide where you want to start, and go from there. Rome wasn’t built it a day; don’t get discouraged if Rover isn’t named in one, either. Just have fun, and let the hunt begin!
Cameron loves dogs and really enjoys picking out boy dog names.
