Keeping Your Skin In Perfect Condition With Microdermabrasion At Home

Author : Jennifer Payne

The days when you had to make an appointment to get your skin exfoliated are long gone. Today, there are remarkably effective products that you can use in the privacy of your bathroom – eliminating the need to see a skin specialist for this simple task.

Microdermabrasion is the mechanical exfoliation of your dead skin. As you age, the skin begins to slough off at a slower rate than when you were younger. Through microdermabrasion, you can literally shave years off of your appearance. Today's products are designed to help with the fine lines and wrinkles that develop on your face over time. They also help improve skin discolorations, dull skin and sun-damaged skin. While there are some extreme conditions that necessitate an expert's care, most people would benefit from do-it-yourself microdermabrasion.

The following products are non-invasive, non-surgical treatments for your face – one created by NuBrilliance and the other, a skincare line called Skinn, created by make-up artist Dimitri James.

NuBrilliance

If you want to jump fully into this skincare regimen, you might want to start with a complete home microdermabrasion skincare system manufactured by NuBrilliance. This particular kit, priced very reasonably, uses no loose crystals. Instead, it offers diamond tip exfoliation and suction to remove your dead skin and stimulate the skin's production of collagen.

The system features a simple-to-use electric wand that comes with two diamond tips, each designed for different skin surfaces. Apply it to the skin, using a uniform movement, to remove the dead skin cells. The vacuum stimulation removes the dead skin and rejuvenates the remaining skin. The fine and regular diamond tips give you some control over the dermabrasion, and the system has five suction settings. (Start with the lowest setting and experiment with the settings to determine what is most comfortable and effective for your skin.) The wand can be used on your face, as well as your neck, hands, arms, legs and other sensitive areas. Be careful not to press the diamond tip firmly against your face. And when you are treating uneven areas of your skin, like the nose or your hands, be sure you turn the wand so the tip comes in full contact with your skin.

Here is what else comes in your NuBrilliance microdermabrasion dual action system:

A DVD that details how to use the system

Preparation cleanser – it gently cleans your skin and removes dirt, residue and impurities. Once your face is this clean, you can follow up with the microdermabrasion system.

Collagen regenerator – A post-treatment skin cream that helps restore the collagen in your skin. It will moisturize and calm your skin after treatment. Rub it into the skin until it disappears

Moisturizing day cream – Once you have exfoliated, you need to moisturize your skin. This cream will sooth as it moisturizes. Again, rub it in until it disappears. You can use this product as an all-over body moisturizer.

Two interchangeable diamond tips: regular and fine.

52 disposable hygienic filters

You can use this system two times a week, or according to your skin's sensitivity. Be sure you replace the tips after 10 to 20 uses and the filter after every two treatments.

Refills

Once you have your NuBrilliance skincare system, simple buy refills for the skincare products. One three-piece set includes 4 ounces of the preparation cleanser, 2 ounces of the collagen regenerator and 2 ounces of the moisturizing day cream.

You can also order refills of the regular and fine diamond tips and filters.

Skinn

Another option is DermAppeal Microderm, produced by Skinn. It is made with a naturally occurring mineral from the Dead Sea that does not contain aluminum oxide. What it does contain is natural papaya and pineapple extracts, as well as other ingredients you will likely recognize, such as sodium bicarbonate, olive oil, glycerin, copper peptide, zinc oxide, sweet almond oil, chamomile, rosemary, tea tree leaf oil, peppermint and lavender oil.

It can be used once or twice a week, depending on your skin's sensitivity. Start by placing a quarter-sized dollop of the product on your damp, freshly washed face. Use circular motions to massage it onto your skin for at least a minute and then rinse. Those with sensitive skin should only use DermAppeal once a week. Others may use it up to three times a week.

Of course, there are skin conditions that require treatment by a professional. But if you're someone who is experiencing the natural aging process and you would like to enhance the appearance of your skin, consider an at-home treatment. The treatments offered here use some of the same materials used by professional practitioners, like diamond tips. While some salons still use loose crystals, NuBrilliance has found diamonds are less irritating than crystals. They are also more hypoallergenic and cause less discomfort near sensitive tissue. Find the right system for you and revitalize your skin today!
