Breast Augmentation – Facts About The Procedure

Author : Jennifer Stone

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic plastic surgery that is performed to enhance the size and structure of the female mammary glands by artificial implants. Although the main purpose of this surgery is to support women who have suffered injury, loss dues to cancer or some other medical problems, it is now very common for 'beautifying' one's body. Many women have taken to the procedure only to make a fashion statement and because their peers have done it. Struggling actresses and models often opt for the procedure to enhance their career prospects. In simple words, the reasons may vary, but many women in America are getting their 'boob job' done.

The top medical news is always laden with updates about the industry and such medical services. In a recent report, as recent as august this year, it was reported that a woman aged 83 years underwent a breast augmentation surgery. The woman decided to take advantage of her good health and look 'better'. Such a procedure generally employs the use of metallic or plastic material. The material is inserted into the breasts of the female by replacing tissues. The procedure is safe, but many women overlook the risks and facts. While the woman in the news has taken the option to avoid her 'wrinkles', she may develop 'ripples' due to the saline material in their chest. Not many are aware that even a saline implant actually is a hollow filled with saline and covered with a coat of silicone. Saline content is adjusted to the size that is required and that is how the shells are made. On the other hand, it is believed that implants with silicone solution look more realistic. Here again, there are risks involved, unlike the saline solution which is merged in the body in case of a rupture, the silicone solution can be hazardous. Hence, the patient will have to take appointments and regularly meet the surgeon for check ups. Also, they create larger scars as they come in fixed sizes. They are filled before being inserted into the body, and hence an appropriate incision needs to be made.

So, this medical technique may seem like a boon, but it is important to clear all doubts and consider the option very carefully while you are at your breast augmentation consultation. After all, you're over all health and future is of prime importance and you mustn't compromise on it merely to look better.
