Home Health Care; A Better Alternative

Author : Georgia Landarie

Many families in the United States have promised their aging loved ones that they won't place them in a nursing home when they require the assistance to do every day tasks. The problem with this is when the time comes, they can't provide senior care because of jobs and their own family life. This could lead to the neglect of the elderly patient. Luckily, there is another option: Home Health Care. For many, this was the best solution for them and their loved one.

It is usually easy to tell when a senior needs some help around the house when their health and mobility start to decrease. This does not mean it is time to move them away from their home and family to get professional senior care. Now there is a way they can receive health care while still enjoying the comfort of their own home. The answer is Home Health Care.

It is often hard to speak with an older person about getting health care services when they feel that they are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. While the conversation of getting home health care may be difficult to start at first, it will eventually keep them healthy, active, and more independent than they would have been on their own.

The most important point you have to make for home health care is their safety. Home Health Care providers will monitor their diet, medications and be there in case they suffer a fall or come down with an illness. The caregiver is also going to be there for companionship and transportation is family members can't always step in.

A home health care provider can be very beneficial to a senior that is recovering from a hip replacement, heart or knee surgery. While they may only need non medical care, they will need assistance getting around and with rehabilitation. Care agencies can line up your senior citizen with the right caregivers that will give them the assistance they need.

The emotional and social stimulation that a home health care agent can give may benefit a senior as much as the medical assistance they provide. Family will most likely get busy with other aspects in their life and may only be able to visit a few times a week. For a senior citizen that can't leave their home without help, a few visits a week isn't enough. Caregivers can supply the non medical services of conversation, news and emotional support while still monitoring their health and providing regular domiciliary care.

The typical daily tasks of home health care providers include assistance with showering, getting dressed, breakfast, medications, preparing other meals, and preparing for bed. This is a full-time job that family members may not be able to take on without other aspects of their regular life suffering. This is why home health care is so convenient and necessary.

The typical rate for home health care providers is $19 an hour. While this may seem pricey, you have to remember that they will only need to visit a couple hours each day to assist with a few daily tasks. When you consider the price of a life, the bill will be small. Your aged loved one will be happier and healthier if you enlist the help of trained home health care providers.
