The Reasons Why Healthy Vending In Schools Is The Way Forward For Children

Author : Jainey Orange

Children are unhealthier now compared to only a few decades ago. This is undoubtedly not a very good thing. An unhealthy lifestyle and eating routine are detrimental to overall health and if unhealthy habits are acquired when young, they can be difficult to break and can potentially lead to illnesses that are linked with excessive weight and a sedentary lifestyle, which can ultimately lead to debilitating health issues and premature death.

Outdoor activities are less popular than they used to be with young people preferring TV and computers to getting outdoors. It is not uncommon for older kids and teenagers to come back from school or college and devote most of the evening indoors glued to a monitor.

A substantial contributing factor to the fitness of children is the food and life style they follow at school. Making a change for the better there can be a genuinely useful approach to help take on the nation's child health problem.

Luckily, things are now going in the right direction and within the school setting, catering has changed significantly, thanks to campaigns by people such as TV cook Jamie Oliver, and there is a focus on getting kids outdoors, working out and eating healthily.

Snack time is also changing. Schools are slowly moving away from traditional snacks and cans of cola and offering something a bit different.

Healthy vending machines are one way of providing pupils with healthy food and drink when they would like a snack or need to rehydrate. The vending machines at schools and colleges also assist in reducing queues at lunch and break so free up more time for staff members.

Schools and colleges can load the snack machines with their unique variety of products or the stock can be provided by the vending machine supplier including anything from salads, fruit, juices and sandwiches. The machines are very reliable and offer cold storage for freshly prepared items.

Water coolers are another healthy vending option and they can be thought of as the evolution of the drinking water fountain. Cold water is dispensed on request to keep the pupils hydrated throughout the day and so in peak condition for learning. Clean water is delivered to top up the dispenser and the used bottles can be removed and recycled.

With an increased focus on outdoor and physical activities, in combination with healthier school meals and healthy vending, things are looking up for children

With a more healthy lifestyle being encouraged in school, children can learn better in lessons and also become used to healthier food and drinks choices that they will carry through out of the school environment and also into later life.
