Solvents from regular paints are getting into the environment and I am sure we would all hope this could be avoided. What they release are chemicals referred to as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and they end up in the atmosphere. Ozone damage, increased risk of smog, and possible global warming, are just a few of the results this may cause. This causes us find new types of paint to use as we get to know about these risks. Environmentally friendly paints were really introduced back in the 1990s, but they were not popular at all and they failed to make any impact.

Since people are now becoming conscious of the environmental issues, will eco friendly paints be more popular? However, there's a further issue to deal with: the painting professionals. The contradicting views mean that, based on some of these paint experts, paints with the volatile organic compounds are better to use. The longevity of eco friendly paint and the need to make use of them more are reasons that paint experts give to oppose them. The paint industry should think about the health issues pertaining to VOCs, including breathing problems like asthma and that people are going for Earth friendly paints.

Latex paint that is water based may just be an answer to this dilemma. They are considered to be environmentally friendly and being water based don't have volatile organic compounds. If want to paint iron, this is a downside with water based latex paint as rust is going to occur a lot faster. Irrespective of this drawback, latex paints are becoming more and more popular with consumers.

When we say 'environmentally friendly paints', we don't merely mean the paint itself is not harmful to the environment, but also the process in which the paint was created or how the ingredients were obtained. For example, Titanium Dioxide is used in numerous paints because of its white color, meaning it has a good ability to cover other paints. Sulfuric acid is a by-product in the making of Titanium Dioxide. The manner in which the acid is discharged is environmentally damaging as the sea is its last stop.

Smog is caused by Titanium Dioxide reacting with the sun when used outdoors. The knowledge that carcinogens may cause cancer is an is real worry due to a link with Titanium Dioxide. Despite all of this, paints nevertheless have Titanium Dioxide.

The public are starting to choose eco friendly paints now that they are finding out more about the health and environmental implications of normal paints.
