What Are The Factors That Affect A Radiologist Salary?

Author : Betty Crane

These days, you will find a lot of people who are choosing to become radiology techs because of the fact that it is one of the most financially rewarding careers nowadays. However, there are a number of factors that affect just how much a radiology tech earns. Work experience is the first factor which will affect a radiologist salary. This is by far the most important factors since it takes years to gain it. And just like any other professional field, radiology puts a lot of importance on experience since veteran employees, those who have seen it all and done it all in the industry, are self-motivated. A veteran employee after all, can easily work without supervision and will not have a long learning curve compared to someone fresh out of college and this is very important in practically all fields of medicine. So, the more work experience you have, the more you are going to earn.

Factor number two tends to be a little gritty. But this second factor actually plays the biggest role in creating an effect on salary increases and promotions in any type of workplace. A mixture of abilities and workplace politics is the second factor that affects a radiology technician salary. If you're a capable radiologist and your bosses like you, then a raise or a promotion really isn't difficult to achieve. However, if you're not doing stellar work and your bosses don't even know who you are ("Who's that guy chatting with Beth over at the water cooler? That's Bill, boss, he's been here five years,") then don't expect an increase in your salary any time soon. There are times when less deserving employees are promoted only because they're good friends with their bosses.

Should you find yourself in this type of situation, it is best to start looking for a new hospital or lab to work in. Your workplace's geographic location is the third factor that affects radiology tech salary If you work in a hospital or any facility that is located in a big city like New York or Chicago, then you are likely going to earn more than a radiology tech friend that works in some doctor's office up in Colorado. This factor does not have anything to do with the skills or the work experience of the employee; this is because of the fact that large cities have higher cost of living expenses than smaller towns. So if you are looking for a job as a radiology tech, you are going to have to consider the living expenses you have when you're negotiating for a salary.
