A Comparison Of Hotels And Self Catering Accommodation

Author : Margaret Tettey

When deciding to go on holiday there are many decisions to make, such as where to go, how much money to take and who to go with. Another important decision is where to stay, a lot of people tend to choose to stay in a hotel, however more recently people are opening up to the idea of renting a cottage or an apartment. There are various benefits and disadvantages of both and it will depend on how you rate them as to which choice is right for you.

Let’s begin with a hotel where you are provided various services which is seen as the main benefit. For instance, there is the option of being served meals. On holiday, most people do not wish to break a sweat doing any type of chore and in this case, they may be better off with a hotel. There are hotel employees that will clean and tidy your room, including the changing of bed sheets on a daily basis. In most hotels, there are also the additional advantages in the form of leisure facilities such as a swimming pool and a bar, and in some cases an on-site gym.

Despite these advantages, some people are choosing to rent accommodation. One such benefit is the idea of seclusion. With rented accommodation, you can choose a countryside cottage that is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a city or a hotel. With this comes more privacy and peace, as there are often many other people staying in a hotel at any one time. Despite not having food prepared for you, there is more freedom with the option to eat whatever you like, when you like, as there are no set menus and no set times. One of the main advantages of rented accommodation over a hotel is the opportunity to experience home comforts whilst being on holiday. Most accommodation will provide living rooms with furniture and in some instances a television. These settings will almost certainly be more relaxing and homely than a hotel room. The main disadvantage of renting compared to a hotel, is that presence of chores. More than likely you will have to cook and clean, as well as leaving the place as you found it.

Overall, the main factors are services and facilities against privacy and home comforts. Depending on the type of holiday you are looking for and which factors you value more will decide which form of accommodation is best for you.
