Things To Look Out For When Renting Holiday Accommodation

Author : Margaret Tettey

As an alternative to staying in a hotel, people are choosing to rent accommodation in the form of a cottage or an apartment, where they are able to experience home comforts in a different location. Although it comes with chores, people tend to see that the advantages of privacy and location outweigh these disadvantages. However, there are several important things that people should keep an eye out for when renting holiday accommodation.

Considering you have chosen a particular destination, research must be done into the local options in terms of rented accommodation. The first thing to consider is the location in relation to local services and facilities. If the accommodation is out of walking distance to them, transport links must be researched or the possibility of using a car. The last thing you want to discover on holiday is that you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with no form of transport. A related point is the location of the nearest supermarket, as it may come in handy when buying groceries for meals, which will save money compared to eating out constantly.

It is also very important to fully research the property, so you know exactly what you are paying for. There will often be photos available, which should be scrutinised and where possible, look for reviews from people who have previously rented. This should give you a general idea on the benefits and disadvantages of the property that you have your eye on. It is important that full and detailed descriptions are given, including what furnishings come with the property. On the day you arrive, you should spend a short period of time having a walk around and taking note of what may be missing. This is to prevent a situation where you may be accused of stealing a particular item.

In addition, on the very first day, you should thoroughly inspect the property for anything that may not have been mentioned in the advert. This includes any damage to furnishings and the property itself such as walls or ceilings. Otherwise you may be accused of causing the damage and made to pay compensation for something which you did not do.

Lastly attention should be given to any rules that there might be. For instance, the landlord may request that the accommodation remains no-smoking, or that pets are not allowed. It is important to respect the owner’s rules and to make sure that they do not conflict with your own plans. Taking all these things into consideration should ensure that you have a care free holiday that everyone deserves.
