New Parent Manual - Baby Skin Care Techniques

Author : Andre Contado

The daily bath and after bath lotion application is not all that is needed for proper baby skin care. It involves making sure that all of your baby's skin stays healthy and clean. Treating developing skin conditions, taking care of your child's laundry and keeping him out of the sun are all important. Your son or daughter's skin is a lot more sensitive than the skin you sport. Your baby needs your watchful eyes and care to make sure that skin conditions are stopped before they start. Thankfully, baby skin care is not all that complicated. You should be able to put together a quality routine early on in your baby's life. Here are some hints and tricks to assist you.

Babies are more likely to develop rashes and a variety of other problems with the skin that can be avoided with the right knowledge. There is no need to lose control when you see a rash develop, usually its something minor. Treating these types of ailments is something that can be done at home with the correct methods. By attending to any type of issue with the skin as soon as possible, you will greatly reduce any blemishing or skin damage that would have results otherwise. Before giving your son or daughter new toys, clothes or letting him or her sleep on new bedding, make sure everything (except the baby of course) gets washed in gentle and hypoallergenic detergent. Washing these things helps smooth them out a little bit and keep your baby's skin protected. This practice is one most adults keep throughout their lives. Don't you wash your new sheets and towels (and clothes) before you use them for the first time?

There are special products designed just for newborns. Don't assume that because something is safe for older infants (older than six months of age) or toddlers that it is safe for your newborn. A newborn baby's skin needs time to develop and learn how to combat outside environmental influences. It takes time for your baby's skin to lose its sensitivity and develop the "thickness" that older babies and toddlers have. When you go shopping for new skin care products for your baby make sure that you choose products that are meant for newborns. It is easy to get intimidated by baby skin care when you are a new parent. It will be tempting to go overboard with baths and cleaning. Believe it or not, it isn't very hard to keep your new baby clean. It won't take long for you to realize that practicing proper baby skin care involves little more than basic common sense and keeping dirt and irritants away from your baby. Don't worry-you will get the hang of it quickly!
