Motorcycle Tour Of Europe - Planning Your Own Holiday

Author : Callum Leslie Walters

Are you planning a motorcycle tour of Europe but don't know where to start? If so, you're in the right place. Our guide takes you through everything you need to consider when going on a tour. Deciding where you want to go will obviously play a big part in this as Europe is a large continent. When deciding which countries to visit, bear in mind that part of Europe is currently operating the passport-free Schengen zone, which might have some bearing on your choices.

You also need to decide who you are going to go with. While most of Europe is very safe, it can still be a good idea to travel in a group rather than on your own. At the very least, you should arrange regular check points where you can meet or get in touch with people so you can let them know you are okay. If you go with a group, make sure that everyone gets on and that no one will leave you on your own.

Preparing everything you need before your trip is also important in making sure everything runs smoothly when the time comes. It's important you know how to repair your motorcycle as if your mode of transport broke down, you'd be stuck. At the very least, you should have a basic knowledge of repairs before you embark on your trip. You should also know how far you can get on a tank of gas and have some comprehensive maps so you don't get lost.

When it comes to what to take, remember that you won't be able to carry that much stuff on your motorcycle. Cover the basics first to make sure you've got everything you need. Even in the summer, it can feel colder than it is when riding a motorcycle so make sure you take some warm clothes with you to Europe to cover extremes of temperature. Also take some motorcycle repair tools so you can fix your bike if it breaks down on the road.

If you are from outside the EU, you should also get some good travel insurance in case you have any health emergencies and find out about any visas you'll need. If you're from the EU, then get an European Health Insurance Card, which gives you healthcare access in other EU countries. Also find out what currency you'll need to take - many countries use the Euro while others still retain their own national currencies so what you need will depend on where you go on your motorcycle tour.
