White Fillings And Pain : Exceldental.co.uk

Author : tracy bonar

Post-operative sensitivity is very common for white fillings placed, but why? There is much to do with chemistry and physics of stuffing themselves. Composite resins or pads are made of a plastic material that expand and contract with temperature changes. This expansion and contraction is felt in the tooth, resulting in sensitivity. In most cases, the sensitivity is in the first weeks after receiving a white filling replaced. After a few weeks, the tooth became accustomed to this movement, and the sensitivity will disappear. There are cases where a white filling is too large for a tooth and the filling should be replaced by a crown.

White fillings are the material of choice for most dentists. This is because white fillings are chemically bonded to the tooth structure, which allows the dentist to make a more conservative preparation of tooth structure. White fillings are also interesting because they are aesthetic. Dentist can place an insert that is the same color as your teeth if you can smile with confidence and no one knows it has a filling.

Amalgam or silver fillings are the old standard fillings. They are not as widely used due to poor aesthetics, mercury controversy surrounding material, and crack in the teeth that result from years of wear. Amalgam which was held in the tooth by mechanical preparation. The dentist prepares the tooth, then filling observed in the tooth to the walls of the enclosure. Because of this mechanical preparation, preparation of the tooth is not as conservative as a white filling. Amalgams are solid materials and can be used for large fillings as composite resin materials are not designed to withstand. How white fillings are expanded and contract award, the amalgam is constantly expanding. This expansion will put pressure on the walls of the preparation for filling and cause cracking and separation of the teeth. Like a crack in the windshield, the crack continues to grow.

Want to have your amalgams replaced when cracks begin, because the cracks could enter the nerve, causing a root canal or tooth could break the bone, resulting in having to have the tooth extracted.

White fillings are the material of new generation in dentistry to replace old amalgams. This is a credible choice of materials, aesthetic and consistent for most dentists. Once you understand what makes the composition of the filling inside the tooth, it is easier to understand why you can have sensitivity to the material, but also see the advantages of this material.
