Helpful Hints For Your Baby Skin Care Routine

Author : Andre Contado

Lots of parents think that baby skin care is a myth and that a baby's skin stays healthy without any help. They just assume that babies are better able to fight off acne and skin problems than adults. After all, babies haven't hit puberty yet so they must not have to worry about puberty-related skin conditions. The simple truth is that skin care should start from day one.

This is why it is important to develop a baby skin care routine early on in your child's life. Preparing your child for proper skin care as an adult involves starting a regular skin care routine early on in life and teaching your child that skin care is important. Here are some hints to help you put together a good skin care routine.

Believe it or not, your newborn and young infant does not need to have a bath every night. For the most part newborns and very young infants stay pretty clean. Babies aren't mobile right away so they don't get very dirty. Because they are immobile, a baby's parents are easily able to control what a baby can get into. As long as you keep your newborn baby's face clean you only need to give him (or her) a full bath a few times a week. Once they become mobile, however, daily baths are important.

You should always check the label on your baby's skin care products. You want to stay away from products that include phthalates, parabens, added fragrances and dyes. These ingredients could irritate your baby's skin and cause rashes and other skin conditions to develop. After putting so much effort into keeping your baby's skin clean the last thing you want to do is cause irritation or other conditions to develop. Gentle skin care products are the best skin care products. If you aren't sure which products are best, ask your pediatrician for some hints before your next shopping trip.

During the first six months of your baby's life you want to do everything you can to keep him or her out of direct sunlight because direct sunlight can prove too harsh for your baby's skin, which will be very sensitive to light. After six months you will want to use a strong baby sunscreen on every inch of your baby's body that is not covered in clothing when you go outside.

Two extra precautions that you should take to protect your baby against sun damage are hats and using umbrellas for shade. If your son or daughter does develop a sunburn (even with all of the precautions you have taken) you can treat it with a damp cool cloth a few times a day.

There are many different baby skin care methods to choose from. The truth is, however, that infant skin care is not as difficult or complicated as you think it is. Your baby will have clean, clear and healthy skin as long as you take the time to shop carefully and use your common sense when anomalies pop up. Don't forget that there is more to baby skin care than caring for your baby's face. Keeping your baby's skin clear, clean and healthy requires you to be vigilant all day long but don't let that scare you! It won't take long at all for keeping your child's skin healthy to become little more than second nature. After a while you won't even have to think about it. It will be almost subconscious!
