Fixing The Error 678

Is your operating system Windows XP? Then you probably encountered so many errors just like the Error 678. This happens to your computer there is no right response coming from the remote system. To simply put, this error is also called by many as the Remote Computer is Not Responding error. More often than not, you can see the 678 error when you try to access the World Wide Web through broadband or dial-up connection. Moreover, those who are trying to connect with the VPN connection may sometimes encounter this problem as well. However, if you want to go online through a phone system, it is very rare that you would encounter this problem. But it is not just the Windows XP users that could come across the said error. Those who are using Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows ME could also experience the same.

If ever you encounter the Error 678 in a dial-up system, here are some things that you should do so you can start connecting to the Internet immediately.

1. Click the START button at your desktop and activate the SETTINGS.

2. Look for the CONTROL PANEL and click PHONE AND MODEM option.

3. Check out the MODEMS tab then look for the modem that you are using to connect online.

4. Click PROPERTIES and the ADVANCED TAB.

5. Make sure that you take note of your initialization string.

6. Place M0 at the initialization string, then check if your connection is working again.

On the other hand, here are the steps that you should do to repair the error that says The Remote Computer is Not Responding.

1. Shutdown and restart your system. Make sure that all the applications are complete before you connect again.

2. For Windows XP users, go to the START menu and choose RUN option. Type CMD at the box then click OK. Then enter "netsh interface IP reset log.txt". After you're done with the command window, you can now restart the computer and try connecting again.
