* Their job involves designing interior space of all types of buildings including offices, homes, railway stations, airport and bus terminals, schools, hospitals, public buildings, hotels, restaurants, theaters, and super market malls and almost everything one can conceive of; and
* Creative and intelligent interior designing can substantially enhance the décor as well as value of the building.

Training, Qualifications, and Advancements

Even though not directly related to their job, the interior decorators require some basic general qualification, at least a bachelor's degree at the entry level of the career. In addition; license is required under the local laws of 24 states and also districts of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Other qualifications and training are –

* 1-3 years apprenticeship following graduation;
* Thereafter prospective candidates will face a national licensing examination;
* In some states it is mandatory joining a professional association while in some others neither examination nor professional association memberships are required but proof of qualification is required.

Academies

Around 250 universities and academies have been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design making them eligible to impart training and education in art and design and so also interior designing.

Employment Prospects

Around 75,000 professional interior designers are job holders in United States and their salaries range from $37,750 to $45,000 per annum.
