A comprehensive university that is located in Durham, North Carolina in United States, North Carolina Central University offers multiple programs for the students and is a historically black public college.
Brief Background
Founded in the 19th century, the university was chartered in 1909 as one of the private institutions in the country. It became the National Training School in the year 1915 and later a taxpayer funded academy in the year 1923 when it was renamed as the Durham State Normal School. It became a liberal art college in 1925 and its first four year batch graduated in 1929. The institution was renamed as the North Carolina College at Durham in 1947. It achieved the State regional university status in 1969 and its name was changed to North Carolina University. From 1972 with consolidated academic courses the institute was named North Carolina University.
Accreditation
Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools accredited the institution as one of the A class academies in 1937. Regular arts and science courses started in 1939 and the Law courses in 1940. Library science was introduced in 1941. However, the New Berth Missionary Baptist Church campus of the university that was started in 2004 was not recognized or accredited.

Campus Features
Campus of North Carolina University is located a mile south of Downtown Durham around three miles to the east of Duke University and it is also recorded in National Register of Historic Places. Part of the UNC system, the campus is regulated by the Board of Trustees with 13 members.
Enrollment
Over 7000 students including over 5500 undergraduates and around 1500 graduate students are enrolled in the university. 85% of these students come from the African American ethnicity. University has student faculty ratio of 13:1.
Ranking
According to U.S News & World Report the university ranks as 36th in the South region as well as 55th among all the universities in the country imparting master’s training.
