Affordable Gifting Perfection With Promotional Codes

Author : David Stack

A friend of mine stumbled upon a site for online coupons and coupon codes some time a couple of years back, and discovered what was, for her, the very last word of gift-giving, the ultimate site for gift certificates. What's more, they even came with an effective built-in system for saving the gift-giver money - coupon codes.

Admittedly I found this to be rather dubious. If people were supposed to get their own gifts themselves, wouldn't you just give them cash? Also, it felt a little impersonal and offhand to me. I grew up with gifts that were bought on the sly after weeks of planning, stashed in the deepest, darkest corners of the closet, and then wrapped on the sly in the middle of the night before being presented to the appropriately awed recipient.

My friend apparently gave it some serious thought, and came up with five reasons why gift certificates make awesome gifts in their own right:

1. Gift certificates always allow the recipient to get something that they really want or can use. Granted, they'd have to go to the store and buy the thing (or online, as the case may be), but it would still give them the power of choice.

2. They're great value for your money. Gift certificates can be had for a range of prices, and ultimately, you will find a gift certificate that fits your budget like a glove. Furthermore, with coupon codes, each gift certificate's value is stretched a little more.

3. They are not as impersonal as they seem. It doesn't mean that just because the person getting the gift gets to choose it, that the gift giver didn't take time to look for and find the perfect gift certificate that the recipient will appreciate. For one thing, nobody gives pet store gift coupons to someone who doesn't have a pet, or a gift certificate for a bookstore to someone who has no interest in reading.

4. They ship very well. Have you ever tried shipping a dozen CDs of a friend's favorite music from your home in LA to her home in New York? Or a beautiful but fragile Tiffany Lamp to your aunt in New Orleans? Not only are shipping costs dreadful, but the chances of that precious gift getting damaged in transit are always present. A gift certificate ships fairly cheaply - and if you send it via email it's even free - and it never sustains any damage from traveling across state lines.

5. They're environmentally friendly, taking up less wrapping and paper than it would take to wrap and package and ship an actual physical gift.

After she'd explained it to me, I had to agree that she had very valid points. Now I'm considering sending gift certificates as well, and maybe get into the habit for good.
