Leather Shag Rug: Part Of Modern Design Once Again

Author : Leo Nelson

If you are looking for a rug that would be perfect for modern decoration, leather shag rugs are the perfect choice. They can be very durable and they come in a wide range of solid colors. Shag rugs first came in fashion during the 60s and the 70s.

They were made as expressions of the Pop Art movement but when the movement declined, the popularity of the rugs also decreased. For a short span of time the shag rug fell out of favor and having one in your room would make it look outdated. However, new manufacturing methods have given a new life to these rugs making them essential decorative items once again.

Real leather shag rugs are composed of long pile strands or with a combination of short, medium and long piles that are connected to a backing. Because of the different lengths of the strands, a cloud like look and feel is created on the rug. Aside from leather, there are also other materials that are used in the making of the rug. These include acrylic, nylon, cotton, synthetics and polypropylene.

This rug is one of the best contemporary rugs that you can place in your interior but you have to put in extra effort to maintain it. Bear in mind that this type of rug was never meant to be placed on high traffic areas. Doing so would make it wear down quicker than you would have preferred. In addition, it can only be dry cleaned, so do take that into consideration.

This constitutes added maintenance expenses for you since you have to take it to professional cleaner every time it becomes too dirty. Leather shag rugs might also be difficult to find so you will have to spend more time shopping for the rug that will best fit your interior.
