Top Tips For Renovating Your Bathroom

Author : Skip Conover

Renovating Your Bathroom It is not difficult or expensive to make your dream bathroom happen because modern bathroom fittings are not that expensive. It is possible to buy very reasonably priced end of season bathroom fittings or last in the range, or simply purchase your bathroom fitments in the sale. What can make bathroom renovation expensive is the necessity to employ specialised tradesmen such as plumbers tiling fitters and electricians. The question a lot of people want to know is can they fit any part of the bathroom themselves?

When planning your renovation it is a good idea to work on paper to start. Measure how big the room actually is first of all. To get ideas of available fixtures there are some planning guides available online or alternatively you can look at brochures from bathroom stores. None of this planning is necessary if you're going to employ professional renovators because they will do all the organisational tasks and choose the necessary traders. However, if your budget is tight you may wish to consider doing some of the bathroom renovation work yourself. If you have no DIY experience at all then a bathroom is not the best place to start because if you make a mistake it can work out very costly for someone else to rectify it.

Plumbing costs will be reduced if you keep new fixtures in more or less the same place, this reduces piping costs and also renovation of tiles. You may have to make a decision to choose a less expensive floor and wall tiles splash out on modern contemporary vanity units. However, if you do not have experience of maximising the space it might be worthwhile to use a professional to look over your layout. In general bathrooms are small and it is important you make the best use of space.

One of the most common mistakes in bathroom renovation is to purchase the wrong type of taps, be aware before you buy fitments whether or not they will fit and are fit for purpose.

There is some common sense aspects as well, make sure that the shower screen can open fully if it does not slide and try not to put the WC directly in front of the entrance door. Deep shelving can be problematical it is easier to store things in cupboards or in drawers. It is not necessary to have a towel rack on the wall it can be attached to the bathroom door or it can be freestanding if you need the wall space.

Clever use of lighting accentuates space, to make it look bigger try to avoid creating shadows in the bathroom because this creates dark corners. Use light blinds or curtains to keep the bathroom well lit. Although beware that if your light is too bright the bathroom make look to sterile and glaring.

Warm and natural materials add a richness of colour and a sense of warmth to your bathroom. In general most bathroom fittings have shiny surfaces so by introducing contrasting textures and materials you can add a lot of warmth to your bathroom.
