The Important Things You Ought To Know Regarding Signs Of Heartburn In Women

Author : Douglas Nino

Heartburn is also commonly called GERD that stands for gastroesophageal reflux disease. It's basically a sensation in our stomach produced due to the action of acids like hydrochloric acid. The function of this acid is to help us in the digestion of the food. But, because of some reasons sometimes, its working gets disturbed. It moves backward and when pushed from the stomach, it enters back into the food pipe or esophagus. The lining covering esophagus is very sophisticated and sensitive. Hence, when hydrochloric acid enters here, it feels like burning sensation or in language we call it as heartburn and women are more prone to it. Lets discover why.

According to a research conducted, females are more prone to suffer from this disorder than males as there is a frequent fluctuation in the level of hormones in female's body. Pregnant women particularly are more prone as her body is getting prepared for the fresh arrival by releasing certain types of hormones. Women suffering from hiatal hernia are also more prone as compared to normal women.

Heartburn is the burning sensation that starts from the throat and runs down till the breast bone. It may stay for few minutes or may even last for hours. It increases if you lie down for a nap or bend down to pick up something. Sour taste is also experienced due to this. Cough is another resultant of it. This cough then results into pain during swallowing. Women also find getting repelled by food. They no longer have their interest in eating.

Getting attacked with heartburn increases manifold in pregnancy particularly in second and third trimester. The main reason for getting attacked with heartburn is the increased pressure on stomach. While pregnant, uterus grows in size to carry the baby. This then exerts more pressure on the stomach thus, creating favorable conditions for the heartburn. Women also complain about the pain in the arms. Besides this, there are also some symptoms like back pain, excessive sweating and sometimes even shortening of breath. Weakness is the other symptom felt by the pregnant ladies. Empty stomach is also one of the major reasons for getting attacked by heartburn.

For getting break from heartburn, you need to drink plenty of water. Water is very good substance for our body. Chewing gums is also one another such factor. Chewing gum helps in producing saliva in the mouth. This saliva is basic by nature with some traces of bicarbonate. This then helps in neutralizing acid present in our stomach.

It might be that simple heartburn may be the result of some acidity, but it should be neglected. It may have an effect on the health adversely.
