Where Should Your Budget Go -SEO Vs. PPC

Author : Chronis Tsempelis

So you sought out an SEO company for SEO services. Now the question is how your budget will be allocated. Your companies marketing budget should include both organic SEO services and some paid search advertising. What are the pros and cons of SEO versus PPC? It’s important to find out which will be more effective for your ROI or return on investment.

Let’s start out with Pay Per Click. PPC works quickly as soon as you setup the account and choose your keywords and budget your ad can show up on the first page within hours. It is up to you on how high you want to rank all according to your budget. It is not necessary to be a professional in order to run a PPC campaign. PPC provides quick data in being able to see what is working and what is not working. It is pretty simple and fast to tweak the campaign to get better results.

Compared to organic SEO services there are some disadvantages. Paying for every click can be very costly. It is a temporary campaign, because once your budget is reached your ads are taken off the search pages. Although it is simpler to get started and to manage, it still takes a lot of time and management to have a successful campaign. Inexperience will cost money if the campaign is not being run properly. Click fraud is always possible with paid advertising. Automated software that clicks on your ad can kill your budget without generating any sales. It is usually hard to detect in the moment but easier to spot after the fact with some analysis. Another issue is the ads visibility. Studies show that most people don’t even pay attention to the far right side of the page where most listings are.

Search Engine Optimization also known as SEO requires a lot more work than PPC. The website needs to be prepared in order to be “SEO friendly”. Doing SEO work yourself is possible but can be very time consuming and does get into some advanced concepts. SEO is a long term strategy and takes ongoing work in order to achieve increased rankings. Results may take months to show up but can also take as little as a few weeks. Top page organic search results for the right keywords can bring your site a tremendous amount of targeted traffic. There is no need to worry about paying per click as it is free and your listing won’t just disappear like PPC.

It is best to go with a combination of both campaigns would be beneficial. You can learn which keywords are performing from paid search and develop organic search strategies to go after these, naturally. Bottom line is that more often than not a great organic SEO campaign delivers a better ROI than paid advertising.
