How To Build A Money Making Blog

Author : Michael Nunn

It seems that everyone wants to make money from blogging these days. From teenagers into music and video games to senior citizens into travel and lifestyle, the number of bloggers and subjects they blog about has grown exponentially over the last few years. So how do you write a blog that creates loyal readers and earns you a tidy income?

Lifestyle blogs, health blogs, car blogs. Blogs about pets, blogs about people and even blogs about blogs. It seems like wherever you turn you see someone else writing about something new. You might not be surprised then to learn that the number of blogs is around the 300 million mark, with hundreds or even thousands of new blogs being created every single day. It should also be no surprise to know that a good number of blogs earn a regular income for their owners, while others do not. In this article we will cover a few of the key points to think about when developing a blog to ensure it gets a good, loyal readership.

To kickstart your progress, you should set a goal for your blog. I know not everyone has the desire to set goals for everything they do, and a goal for your blog does not need to be overly ambitious, but you do need to decide what it is you want to achieve. Your goal may be just to share your passion and knowledge with as many interested readers as possible. It is very easy to track the number of readers your blog reaches these days using google analytics and hit counters. It can be a lot of fun seeing your daily hits reach a new milestone.

Set a goal that is realistic. Setting a target of a thousand readers per day might be a bit much to begin with, so perhaps aim for a figure of fifty daily readers by the end of your first month. You will see your readership grow steadily as you continue to post new content. Good things take time so let your blog grow and develop and your number of hits will also rise.

Make sure you add new blog posts regularly. By writing a new blog post at least a few times each week, your blog will continue to be crawled and indexed by the major search engines, and more readers will be likely to discover your blog as they surf the web. By constantly adding new blog posts, you will also give your readers a good reason to come back to your blog time and again. If they were interested in your first post they read, they are likely to want to read more of what you have to say, so feed their need and they will become regular readers.

Blog about things that you really care about. If you blog about your hobbies and interests, you are more likely to keep adding more posts and it will be a joy. If you try to write about topics you do not really care for, it will turn into a chore, and you are likely to lose motivation and momentum. If it is interesting for you to write about, chances are it will be interesting for your readers.

Try not to cram your blog with advertising. Having a few text or banner ads that are relevant to your blog content is usually better than having every spare inch taken up by random and disconnected ads.

Be patient. Remember that good things take time. The best blogs are those that have been developed over several months or years. You may think your fledgling blog is not getting the readership it deserves, but then one day you might write a blog post that sets the world on fire. That type of post can generate a flood of interest, and your readership can grow rapidly. The key is just to keep at it. If you still have more to say then just get on with it. You never know what may be around the corner.

So, to recap the key points in creating a winning blog. Set yourself a simple goal to reach a certain readership level by a particular date. This will give you something to measure your progress against. Blog about something that you really like so that you stay motivated. Write new blog posts regularly so your blog is constantly indexed by the search engines and your readers always have something new to read each time they return. Keep advertising to a reasonable level and choose relevant ads that will appeal to your readers. And most of all, be persistent. Give your blog the time to grow.

Keep these tips in mind and you will be on your way to making some good money from blogging.
