Fancy Dress - Modern To Medieval

Author : josphine patel

Halloween is obviously a perfect time to get dressed up in a fancy costume, no matter your age or plans for the evening. However, there are fancy dress parties held throughout the year to celebrate all kinds of pop culture phenomena. Many times, a birthday party will call for dressing up, whether you an adult or a child. Reunions, parties put on by the Royal Family and other gatherings mean dressing up. What kind of fancy dress will you wear to be distinguishable from other partygoers? After all, you want to wear something that will set you apart but that others will still be able to recognise.

Dressing up in a manner that pays tribute to a past decade is popular for fancy dress parties these days. Styles as recent as the 80s are worn at dress up parties, including leg warmers, big wigs, animal print, leggings, fishnets, and bright colours. Fancy dress mimicking styles from the 70s would not be complete without recognising the afro hair style and the bell bottoms of the era. Disco was huge, as was the rocker outfit. The 60s was a decade of hippies and flower power. Bright colours, knee-high boots, and bold patterns mark this era. The youth of the 50s embraced the new form of music called rock and roll and showed their rebellion in their costumes. You can adopt a fancy dress imitating these styles.

Other popular themes and specific people from pop culture are mimicked at fancy dress parties as well. The Lone Ranger, Where's Wally, Bananas in Pyjamas, plus many more are available to dress up as with the right fancy dress costume. Music, television and movie characters are popular to dress up as. Then, you cannot forget classic nurse or fire fighter outfits, cowboys and Indians, or cops and robbers, all from the modern era.

If you go even further back, you can dress as a fair maiden or court jester of medieval Europe. Fancy dress from this era includes corsets, large skirts, curly wigs, masks, and petticoats. As a man, you could dress as a knight, a king or a wizard. There are many options for ladies as well, including a princess, a queen, a tavern wench, or a young maiden. Whatever you choose, your fancy dress costume will look excellent as long as you have all the right accessories you need for your modern or medieval themed fancy dress party.
