How Much Should I Bet When I Play A Sit N Go Tournament?

Author : Alex Bannon

There is a lot of different things that can affect your success in a Sit N Go tournament. There are cards, table position, players, and of course, bets. Betting is one of the most important things to get correct when playing Hold em, especially Sit N Go tournaments.

So how much should you bet? Well, this depends, and I’ll explain all the major points right now. Oh, and I’ll reveal a little secret at the end too.

Sit N Go Tournament Betting Info #1

First thing is how big is your stack size? Obviously if it is smaller you won’t be able to bet as much, or if it’s bigger you can bet a little more freely.

Sit N Go Tournament Betting Info #2

How big is your opponents stack size? Whether it is one or multiple opponents, what is your stack size in relation to theirs? Generally you want to take on those that are smaller than you.

Sit N Go Tournament Betting Info #3

What is the size of the big blind? As the tournament goes on the blinds increase. Although a $300 bet at the start was huge, when the blinds are $150 this doesn’t have the same effect.

Sit N Go Tournament Betting Info #4

What is the standard raise? Generally, a sort of standard about will be set by the table as the amount of bet when you enter a pot pre-flop. This is usually 2-3 times the big blind. Take this into account

Sit N Go Tournament Betting Info #5

Have you got solid cards, are you bluffing, do you intend to all-in, are you in position. These are a few more things to think about. If you don’t know how these affect how much you should bet then please go and research.

By now you are probably realizing there is a whole lot more to betting then you first thought, right? Well, yes. And I’m sure you are aware that each of these points has its little intricacies and details that tinker and hinder it. I urge you to go and learn about these as this will be very valuable information for you.

Now, for the little secret I promised you. There is one secret to betting, a secret that can make almost any of your bets feel super strong and be very effective. That secret is aggression… but not just normal aggression - solid-hyper aggression.

If you want each of your bets to really mean something you need to erase the words check and call from your poker vocabulary. If you always bet, all the time (as in never call or check) your bets will be much stronger, as people will fear you at the table.
