Tips For Environmentally-Friendly Cleaning

Author : Marlon Jackson

Among all the things going green, cleaning is definitely one of the best for you and the environment. There are many green cleaning ideas as well as healthy products that still leave your home looking spick-and-span. The ideas that follow are simple but helpful and are only a few of the many things you can do.

Use green cleaning products. Most cleaning solutions are petroleum-based. Instead buy products made from renewable, non-toxic resources. Substances like coconut oil can be used in many green cleaning products. Cleaners that are pH-neutral are just some of the many other options. You can be assured that these products are non-toxic and won’t damage your home.

Second, make your air quality better. The substances in many standard cleaners can linger in the air and irritate you for hours. Another airborne pollutant is the many allergens like dust and dander that linger in the air. Typical air fresheners like sprays and candles can sometimes make problems worse. Instead of aerosol cans, consider other spray cleaners that are gentler and more environmentally friendly. Baking soda is a very good option. Sprinkle it on carpet as you vacuum to create a very fresh, crisp smell. If you want to filter your air, you can buy a machine or consider growing a broad green leaf plant inside.

Keep toxic substances off your floors and out of your home. It's often most difficult to keep your floors clean. For all the dirt you see on your floors there are also many unseen toxins brought inside on your shoes. A good way to help the problem is to have quality doormats at your doors. An even better way to alleviate the problem is to institute a no-shoe policy indoors.

Environmentally-friendly cleaning at home can begin with some of these ideas, but they certainly aren't the only ones. Substituting soap and water for antibacterial cleaners and disposing of harsh cleaners properly can be a good start for more green cleaning. There are many places where you can find environmentally-friendly ideas to implement in your daily life.

By taking a few simple steps you can begin to live a greener lifestyle. It's up to you how green to make it. The key to green cleaning is to know what substances are coming into your home. If you want to clean and be green, it's a good way to start.
