Change is sometimes a good thing, in fact; change is a great thing but sometimes it's the adaptation that takes some getting used to. If we're to talk about décor, change is excellent and it gives your home a new look and feel so you won't be bored of the same old thing you've been staring at for the past 10 years. Give your living room a good makeover and redecorate! Don't worry, you don't have to burn multiple holes through your pocket, because there are some ways to redecorate without spending a fortune.
Once you've made up your mind to refurbish your hall, keep a look out for ads or notices on garage sales and moving out sales. Try scouting around high end neighborhoods because you'd be able to score some good furniture and home décor items for quite a good price. You could also check for auctions in your neighborhood where you might be able to take home some good antique pieces for your home. Do remember that before you make your bids on anything, make sure you have sufficient amount of money to pay and understand the terms and conditions of the auction. Do not make a bid on something you cannot promise payment because it can lead to some severe consequences; online or offline.
If you feel that you don't want to go all out and change everything but would like some small changes that will make a big difference, then change your lighting. Replace old dusty lamps with cool and modern ones and take down regular lightings and use sleek modern lighting fixtures instead. You could also add a chandelier for a more sophisticated look to your living room or give all this a miss and go way back by having little yellow lamps and antique lightings.
A brand new makeover may not be what you want or need, so before you start purchasing your new items, do some massive cleaning first and dust off everything in the room. Start with the mess, clean the furniture, scrub the floors and clean up the fans, lights and whatever else. When the room is clean, it would be brighter and would look better too. From here, you'd be able to see what you'd like to change and what you'd like to keep.
Sometimes you don't necessarily have to get rid of your old furniture but instead, make some changes to it. Wooden furniture, especially those made from oak and pine, can last a lifetime. It would be such a shame to see it go so don't replace it but just give it a new life. Strip off the old finishing, rub it down with some sandpaper then give it a fresh new coat of finishing of your choice. Learn the right way to do this and you'd have new shelves, tables and so on. For your chairs, replace the cushions or change the cushion cover design and you'd notice that it makes a difference to your living room as well.
Use books, magazines and the internet for great inspiration and you would be amazed at what you can do for a minimal cost.
