Whether you are a homeowner and looking to see something different on the walls or are renting but looking to spruce up your place, wallpaper is certainly an option worth further investigation.
One of the first things many people think of when wallpaper is mentioned in home decorating are those horrible patterns that we grew up dreading, telling ourselves that we would NEVER have in our OWN home. However, with the developments and evolution in the industry, wallpaper is back on the walls. And now more than ever, wallpaper comes in hundreds of thousands of patterns and palettes, making any personal preference a priceless one.
Painting can often be quite tedious and can often consume the entire weekend or more. Paint spills, chemical smells from paint thinner and the paint itself can take days to eliminate from your home. With wallpaper, a room can be transformed into a personal sanctuary in about a day, cleanup and all!
Some people may find themselves interested in the idea of wallpapering and may really enjoy certain patterns, but could still not be totally sold on the idea. Here are a few ideas for those still sitting on the fence.
Without fully committing, you can still accent a single wall in the dining or living room. Accent wallpapering helps to brighten a room, make it cozier and ultimately gives it your own personal touch. A one wall accent often times rearranges the dimensional aspects of a room, making it appear larger with lighter colors and smaller with darker colors. It may lengthen or stunt a room in one direction, detour the eyes towards other colors and patterns or tie all of the many colors together. Regardless of the endless choices, it can be done efficiently and effectively, not to mention it is unique to your taste and home.
Accent walls are only one way of refreshing the staleness of a room. You've seen chair rails done in wood around a room. What about a Beidermeier strip that offers the same simplicity and comfort? Ideally, the strip would be about a third of the way up from the floor or baseboard, running horizontally around the entire room.
Perhaps you have a chair rail. Filling the dado, or wall space between the chair rail and the baseboard is another option. Traditionally, wainscoting is done with paneling or some rigid material such as a plastic or wood. By changing to wallpaper, it lowers the cost and can be changed easily as your taste evolves or furniture changes. There are endless possibilities, but using a Tromp l'oeil design, may help bring movement to an otherwise frozen room. This type of design uses shadows to "fool the eye," giving a three-dimensional illusion to a flat wall. This type of design would look magnificent as a boarder as well.
It is possible you have an unused fireplace or mantle in your home. Imagine a colored boarder that twists and tangles the colors of an existing room into a centered masterpiece. This old mantle or fireplace takes on a life of its own, now cohabitating with the other designs, patterns and colors preexisting in a room. It no longer must stand alone.
A mural is another option of adding décor to a sour and drab room. It allows a more subtle approach to mingling colors and themes into a room. Murals can come in window size or even cover an entire wall.
Besides the fact that there are seemingly endless options for designs, patterns and colors, perhaps the best thing about wallpapering and accenting rooms is that it now has your own personal touch to it. You don't have to hire an interior designer or buy specific furniture to match a certain color. Wallpaper allows freedom and limitless opportunity without the hassle and mess of painting, or the expenses of interior designers.
Regardless of whether you are renting your home and looking to spruce it up or you are a homeowner looking to see something different on the walls,
wallpaper
is definitely an option worth exploring. Hanging

in your home more often than not gives you the freedom and alnearlylimitless opportunity without the hassle and mess of painting, or the expenses of interior designers.
