Author : Marlon Jackson

If you'd like to be more environmentally friendly, changing the way you clean is one of the easiest things to do. You can easily change your cleaning habits to reflect an eco-friendly mindset without sacrificing sanitation. Here are just a few ideas that you could implement in your home.

Try cleaning products that are green. Instead of petroleum-based cleaners, go for products that are non-toxic, biodegradable and are made from renewable resources. Most eco-friendly cleaners contain one or more plant-based essential oils. Whether you want a cleaner that is scented, fragrance free or pH-neutral, you can choose from many options. It's worthwhile to know that a product you buy won't be a detriment to your home environment.

Ensure the best air quality at home. The chemicals in many cleaners can damage your skin or senses. Besides chemicals, you also have to consider the pollen, dust, dust mites and more that are part of your home environment. The chemicals in many aerosol air fresheners or candles can exacerbate the problems. As an alternative you could choose natural air sprays or even boil a pot of some of your favorite spices or herbs. Baking soda is a very good option. Sprinkle it on carpet as you vacuum to create a very fresh, crisp smell. Plants like Peace Lilies or others with broad green leaves are great for filtering air even though they don't necessarily freshen it.

Keep your floor clean and the toxins out. Heavy foot traffic can make it difficult to get clean floors. Shoes can can so many nasty and toxic substances and carry them into every room in your home. You should definitely have good quality doormats at all the used doors. A more effective way to keep toxins out is to make your family and guests go shoeless in your home.

There are numerous other ways that you can go green at home. You can also use less antibacterial cleaners or none at all. Warm water and soap often work just as well. Seek out some green websites and articles if you want to learn more.

By taking a few simple steps you can begin to live a greener lifestyle. It's up to you how green to make it. If you want to be a green cleaner, remember to be mindful of the ingredients going into the products you buy and of the substances that come into your home. It's easy to start being better to yourself, your home and the environment.
