Video Monitoring Systems Are Ready For You

Author : Damian Higgens

Home monitoring is a field of surveillance that allows homeowners or renters to set up activity-sensing devices throughout the home to keep abreast of all enterprises within and without the home. The advent of video equipment simplifies surveillance activities with a near-continuous stream of high-quality image data. A video monitoring system connects multiple cameras through a network to a central capture system. Camera output can then be viewed in unison or singularly by the system operator. Typical system features include zooming capabilities that allow the operator to focus on a particular area as well as camera positioning. Capture features are also available to the operators to store segments of video for replay.

Drawbacks to video monitoring structures that aren’t wireless are the many hardware requirements. In the past, cameras were often bulky, and power requirements dictated a live utility feed right to the unit. Connectivity for the camera to the monitoring system required communication cables from the camera to the host computer. In other words, a lot of modification to the home was required to set up one of these systems.

Wireless video technologies have eliminated the need for significant home modifications in installing video monitoring systems. A wireless device on the camera connects directly to the host monitoring system. Secure encryption and authentication technologies protect the devices so that each connects to the correct host – no hacker can tap into a 128-bit encrypted signal. You can be assured that your system is safe.

Smaller camera sizes and innovative new mounting technologies make it possible to affix a camera on a magnet mount it anywhere in the house. The mounts can be removed easily and relocated to new areas of the home in just a few minutes. Best of all, the connection to the host system will not be broken in the move – an incredible timesaver over systems of the past. With all of these features, video surveillance for the home is a great product for any home security portfolio.
