Teacher Education Programs For Kindergarten Teachers

Author : Damian Higgens

There are many different teacher education programs you can pursue if you love working with children and want to help prepare the little ones for a bright academic future. You can join a teacher education program online and have the freedom to complete a great deal of your coursework from the comfort of home on your own schedule. You could also take classes at a traditional state university or private university, or if you want to save some money and have an easier transition, you could start out at a community college for the first couple years. Whichever route you take, though, there will be certain requirements you can assume you will be looking forward to.

The average teacher training program for kindergarten teachers isn’t that much different from the programs for elementary, middle and high school teachers, but there are some aspects which are quite unique. First of all, kindergarten teachers typically focus more on early childhood development. Kindergarten teachers also don’t have to master a particular subject like an English, math or science teacher for middle school or high school would have to do.

In the beginning of any teacher education program you will need to take the general education courses at the online university, community college or traditional university of your choice. These include biology, economics, English, history, speech and other important courses that will make you a well-rounded graduate. Once you have reached your junior year of college, your coursework will focus more on courses that relate to your future career such as childhood development, psychology of learning and philosophy of education. You may also benefit from courses in art and music to help you work with children in different mediums, and social science to help you socialize the children.

After earning your bachelor’s degree, you will need to complete a teacher certification program or master of education program, followed by a student teaching position. Then, when your teacher training program is complete, you’ll be ready to work with kindergarteners like you’ve always dreamed.
