Dining Table - Not Just Somewhere To Eat

Sitting down to a family meal, table loaded down with steaming plates of food, glasses and serving dishes, that is the traditional way we think of a dining table. Lets be honest, we probably don't sit at the table that much. What we often do is use our dining table in a multitude of other ways.
Be honest, is your dining table used for sitting and working on your laptop? Do the kids sit there to do their school homework? Is it handy for setting down things to pick up and move later? Those things are just a fraction of the uses our dining table has. Really the table these days is multi-functional so when you choose one you need to consider its other uses as well as its primary use.
You need to pick a table that will serve you as well for its main purpose, as it will for the other uses you put it to. In a lot of houses the dining table has to be multi-purpose because we are limited for space. There are dining tables with drawers in them, so its use can be extended to storage for bits and pieces. It may be that you sew a lot; the table is the perfect place for this activity. The kids will always use it for different projects when they need that kind of space.
When you go to buy your new dining table, think of the other uses you have for it. Good furniture can be expensive so the more you make it work for you, the better value it provides you with. Most kinds of dining table are hard wearing and durable. You do need to check how much use it will take. For example, if you have younger children that may spill things or be creative with their crayons and paint, you need to check that the table can withstand this.
A friend of mine once danced on her dining table, its not a use I would recommend but she found it fun at the time. It just shows that what seems to be a simple piece of furniture, a humble dining table, can double up to be anything. Its uses range from a dance floor to a place to sit and write. I’m sure there are more obscure uses for a table so get thinking of what you could use it for.
First and foremost your dining table will be used to eat at, serve food at and enjoy family time together around it. How creative can you be with your table use? The options for using it are endless. So ask yourself, what do I use my table for, before parting with hard earned cash for it. The right choice of dining table can and will give you more options than just sitting eating at it.
