When it comes to keeping your car environmentally friendly, California has some of the toughest smog emission laws in the country. These smog emission regulations go hand in hand with the tough air pollution laws that California has passed. Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego smog test regulations are in place to keep the air clean and the views beautiful. While some Californians are frustrated with these laws and the burdens that they cause, these laws are in place to save the natural beauty of California for the rest of us to enjoy.
These regulations are so tough that if your car does not pass a smog test, your Los Angeles, San Francisco, or San Diego auto repair person may need to work on your car. You may need to have work done to make your car smog test ready so that when you retest your car, you will pass. While most cars require smog testing before registration, some do not. Smog inspections are not required in California if your car is:
* Hybrid
* Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older
* Diesel powered manufactured prior to 1998 or with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs.
* Electric
* Natural gas powered with a GVWR rating of more than 14,000 lbs.
* Motorcycle
* Trailer
Other than the above, most vehicles registered in California require smog testing and certification when vehicle is registered or the registration is renewed. There are some specific requirements for many counties in California.
It is important to not only make sure that your car will pass a smog test, but that it is safe to drive on the dangerous California roads. Take your vehicle to a Los Angeles, San Francisco, or San Diego car service to ensure your cars safety and compliance with California vehicle regulations.
