3 Reasons For Sudden Hair Loss In Women

Author : Charles Zoe

When the body and our health is negatively affected (trauma, pregnancy, emotional stress, major illness) your hair no longer has priority for your health maintenance. Sudden hair loss or thinning is a common and upsetting problem affecting young women. Sudden Hair Loss in Young Women can seriously affect their self-esteem and it′s a condition that must be addressed appropriately.

Sudden Hair Loss in Young Women is also known as alopecia and it basically means that a person is losing more hair than usual. Normally, each hair grows approximately 1/4 of inch per month, and continues growing for a maximum of 6 years. Then the hair falls out and another grows in its place. Hair loss occurs when the amount of hair that falls out is greater than the amount being produced.

Another category of hair loss in women is a generalized thinning that affects all parts of the scalp. This is the most common type of hair loss seen in females. In this situation, much of the hair remains, but the thickness of the hair shaft is smaller than normal hair. The medical term for this type of thinning is "Diffuse Un-patterned Alopecia".

What causes Sudden Hair Loss in Young Women?

1. Severe mental stress can have this affect as your body and mind tries to deal with your emotional issues. This process, known as telogen effluvium, occurs when more hairs go into a "resting phase" and are shed.

2. Hormonal imbalance is the main cause for in Sudden Hair Loss in Young Women. Testosterone is the main hair-producing hormone in the body but one of its strands has the opposite effect. DHT hormone (derived from testosterone) is responsible for overproducing hair in certain areas of the body (especially in the head).

3. Some diseases and infection can cause sudden hair loss in women. Ringworm on the scalp often results in small patches of baldness, itching and redness. Diseases that affect the immune system such as lupus also cause hair loss.

4. Diets low in protein and other minerals may cause hair loss. Women who lose a lot of weight rapidly often notice thinning hair. Conversely, high doses of vitamin A have also been linked to sudden hair loss.

The good news is that stress related hair loss (telogen effluvium) is temporary. In fact, due to the nature of the hair growth cycle, by the time you hair starts to shed heavily, your stress related problem may have already been resolved.

1. Realistic expectations. A lot of stress is caused by disappointment in ourselves and/or others. When we or others can't live up to expectations you may have, disappointment and stress can set in. If you feel this applies to you, adjust your expectations. This is one of the best hair loss treatment.

2. Get a massage. Massage therapy can relax muscles, ease muscle spasms, increase blood flow to skin and muscles, and relieve mental and emotional stress.
