When I was 16 years old I started to breed a tummy. How I wish I could have simply turned back the clock and did something about it right then and there. But like nearly all teenage boys I had other things on my subconscious and I let it go, and go, and grow, and grow......you get the point. I never really learned any hearty eating habits or healthful athletics habits; I was more of a book worm/computer geek. Computer geekery after all led me to a job doing just that, so as an man I divided my time between being a desk jockey during the day and then a couch potato at nighttime. You can conjure up the amazingly buff body that kind of style of living generated. I was 30 years old with the body of a 50 year old man. To make things worse I was starting to breed the health problems of a 50 year old man. That’s when I knew I had to do something about “my problem.”
Like any good computer geek, I went about finding a “solution” to my problem. I bought all the latest and greatest diet pills. Each one promised me amazing results, all you had to do was look at the before and after pictures. I kept on ordering pizza for dinner nearly every night, and kept on playing video games until the wee hours of the morning only to grab a quick couple hours of sleep and then rush off to my cubicle and comfy office chair for the day. It was ok though….I had my magic pills and they would do all the work for me….right? You can guess how that turned out; many months later and still a fatty.
Being a computer geek I didn’t have the aversion to purchasing guides over the internet that most people seem to have naturally. I bought guides over the internet for my profession all the time. So I launched into a new buying spree snatching up every guidebook available online. Once again I was questing for a speedy fix and I failed miserably. Now looking back on things I realize that each of those guides I picked up had some great nuggets of wisdom within, but being a complete neophyte to any and all things healthy I had no idea how to recognize them. So I gave up. I’m not proud of that, but it is the bare simple truth. I gave up on it, and just resigned myself to what seemed to me to be an inescapable fate of being forever fat.
Fast forward a couple years and now the health problems have really started to catch up with me. I’m in and out of the hospital for this problem and that problem and I’m only 32 years old for cryin out loud! I had to do something about it, my quality of life was flat out miserable.
I got lucky at that point. One of those little coincidences life throws your way now and again seemingly right when you need it most. A registered nurse that was watching over me as I recuperated from an operation mentioned two books that her father (yeah that made me feel good…) had used to lose a ton of weight when he was diagnosed with diabetes. They were internet books of all things….doh! But I was desperate so I followed through and picked them up. Now, I don’t know if was all the stuff I had tried over the years that had finally sunk in, or if it was all those doctors lecturing me while only giving me a snippet here and a snippet there of what I actually needed to do that gave me the seasoning that I needed or what it was exactly, but for whatever the reason it all clicked for me on that go around.
For whatever reason it was those two books gave me the clarity that I needed to put it all together and know how to proceed. I had been gathering all the tools I needed to get the job done over the years I just didn’t know it.
The bottom line is that there is no one diet that is best for everyone…….there is no pill that is just right for everyone……there is no exercise regime that is a perfect fit for everyone. But that doesn’t mean that a healthy weight loss diet along with natural weight loss supplements and a good sweat session on a regular basis are inconsequential. Like duh really!
I just needed to experiment and find the right combination for me.
Well I did. I lost the weight, the health problems virtually disappeared, and I feel better than I can ever remember feeling. So the moral of my tale is please don’t give up like I did. The answer is there, you most likely already know it, but you just don’t realize it.
