When driving for a summer road trip you need to check that all is in order so there is no undue stress or issues to deal with along the way. Before packing up the car, be sure you go through the travel pointers below.
Do not pull out of the garage if the tires have not been switched from winter to summer ones. Check tire pressure before departing as a pound of it is generally lost on a monthly basis. The key to prevent blowouts and tread separation is correct tire inflation because contact between tire and road is optimized.
See to the fluids as well. See if the oil needs changing. The car owner manual lists oil recommendations by the manufacturer. Go see inside the radiator while the car hood is up and check your antifreeze coolant mixture. A 50 to 50 coolant to water ratio is the ideal for achieving optimized thermal regulation in both summer and wintry weathers.
Inspect what is left of the car. All hoses and belts must be examined by a mechanic. Although wiper blades seldom survive past one year some still work so just check if yours are still efficiently. A car battery that is four or five years old must go straight to the repair shop to be looked at and assessed for reliability in the long drive ahead.
Keep an emergency kit in the car. Store important emergency gear like flashlights and jumper cables or flares in the cargo area and have a mat handy so clothes do not get dirty in case of a tire change. Always pack additional supplies from extra washer fluid to jugs of water to basic repair tools like screwdrivers or pliers to paper towels and gloves to clothing.
Many are guilty of stuffing the car with almost all the house contents when preparing for a road trip. Stop this and just take along the important stuff. Shampoo will be provided at the hotel so why bring some along? Nine pairs of shorts is not really necessary given that there is a washer dryer where you are going.
Never pack the items you decided to take along so high they block your external vision. Placing the heaviest items at or near the truck center will make moving them easier but for what is left of the load try distributing them evenly all over the vehicle.
Being snoozy behind the wheel is considered a leading cause of road accidents. Make absolutely sure you get a good night's rest before spending a long time behind the wheel. While coffee perks you right up the caffeine buzz is just temporary and you soon find yourself in a lulled state. Take time to rest by switching drivers every couple of hours and stopping frequently. Small bladders mean more frequent restroom stops which actually contributes to lowering the freeway fatigue risk.
Interstate accidents come about usually because someone on the road finally had it with the sleep deprivation and the yelling kids plus the exhaustion. Heed this advice play nice. No one likes a road hog so do not be one and just let that speeder pass you plus do not tailgate. The roads would be a lot safer if people all just learned to get along. You will not encounter problems on the road trip drive during the summer if you think about the travel tips mentioned here.
