I don't think I ever met a person that haven't wished to play the guitar at some point in their life. The guitar is the number 1 instrument of choice for beginning musicians (Piano is a close second). It's hard to find anything that comes even close to the guitar. It just pulls you in and almost everyone would like to know how to play it. With so many people willing to learn the guitar, 7 out of 10 quit within just a few months. Here is why.
Not Committing To Taking Lessons
Not committing to lessons is very common for many beginner guitar players. Many times they get their guitar for really cheap somewhere or maybe even they got one for free from one of their relatives. They then go on for a few days messing around with it, see if they can make out a good tune. Soon they see how hard it is, so they stick it somewhere in their closet and never try again. A few beginners might want to learn more, so they will pick up a guitar guide book and start learning. And even they give up as soon as they realize how difficult to get their fingers in proper position to play the chords.
Not Researching Their Options
People that don't do their research miss out on many learning opportunities. These people just pick out the closest instructor to their home with the best price and start taking private guitar lessons. I am not saying that everyone is going to end up with a bad guitar instructor, you might actually be lucky and get a really good one. In fact, it happened for me. However For two years I took his lessons and then he got a great job as a studio musician and stopped giving lessons. I decided to keep taking lessons with his replacement. Let's just say I made a huge mistake! He just wanted to show off in front of me how good he was and hardly taught me anything. I was very irritated. So, do your research on private guitar instructors
A great way to find out whether or not the guitar is for you, is to take free online guitar lessons for beginners. There are mass amounts of beginner guitar lessons available online. But do be careful. Many sites promise great results, but can't live up to their promise. So, do your research!
If you want to learn to play the guitar but don't know if it's for you, then give free lessons a try. It will save you a lot of money in the long run. You shouldn't have much difficulties finding you online lessons for free. Almost any good guitar site offers them now.
