People out on a summer road trip of course want it to be a smashing success free of any stress and problems. Here are tips for travel that you might have overlooked.
The car should sport summer or all season tires if you are going to use it in hot weather. With every passing month, the average tire loses about a pound of air pressure so check your tire pressure before you leave. Tires touch the road without incident if they are inflated correctly and in this way blowouts as well as tread separation are avoided.
Make sure all fluids are working fine. Change the car oil if it has not been already. The car owner manual lists oil recommendations by the manufacturer. Inspect the radiator particularly its coolant and anti freeze mixture content. Optimal temperature control is achieved for both hot and cool weather if the coolant to water ratio stays at 50 to 50.
Survey the other sections of the car. Before your trip begins, have the belts and hoses inspected by a mechanic. The lifespan of a typical wiper blade is one year so go see if yours is still performing efficiently. Lastly a car battery older than three years needs to be brought to a certified car repair facility for testing.
Include emergency paraphernalia in the vehicle. The trunk is perfect for holding emergency items like first aid kits and jumper cables along with flashlights and flares plus an extra mat to keep clothes clean in the event a tire needs changing. You never know when supplies will run out so be sure to pack spare clothing and water plus some non perishable goods and a bunch of tools including pliers and screwdrivers plus other items you deem essential.
Road trips usually turn into a packing free for alls where people do not stop with the luggage and just continue stuffing the automobile with coolers or pillows. Drop this habit and pack only what is important. Leave the shampoo bottle at home as there will be some at the hotel for you. Bringing a dozen shorts on the trip is impractical given that there is a washer and dryer accessible where you are headed.
When done picking out what you will bring pack them just so that they do not interfere with your view of the road. Placing the heaviest items at or near the truck center will make moving them easier but for what is left of the load try distributing them evenly all over the vehicle.
Drivers in a languid state represent one of the major accident causes. Get as much sleep as you can to avoid dozing off while driving on the day of the trip. You get a brief shot in the arm from caffeinated coffee but it later dissipates leaving you feeling drowsy. Pull over often and if there are two of you driving switch every hour so you can rest. People might view their small bladders as annoyances but they are actually the reason superhighway fatigue risks are lower since it causes them to make frequent stops to pee.
Most road rage incidents are caused by people who finally lost it after hours and hours of driving and keeping the youngsters entertained and ignoring the exhaustion. Being mean will not get you far. Just allow faster drivers to pass and never tailgate but be sure to use the car signals. If we all can just learn to get along, the road can be an awfully fun place to spend time on. If you keep these travel tips in mind, you are well on your way to a relaxing and enjoyable summer road trip season.
