Gambling On Seattle Seahawks In NFL Preseason Gambling

Author : Lynn Smith

The Seattle Seahawks are thought to be a serious contender in NFL lines this season in NFL betting in the NFC West.

The San Francisco 49ers are the lukewarm faves to secure the division with the Arizona Cardinals the 2nd preference. In NFL preseason gambling, Seattle is the 3-1 3rd choice.

NFL preseason odds list the Seattle Seahawks as 48-1 long shots to take the Super Bowl. While the Seahawks may not win the Super Bowl they could win their own division. The Cardinals seem much weaker lacking retired quarterback Kurt Warner and receiver Anquan Boldin though San Francisco isn't thought to be a sure thing either.

The Seahawks have a new head coach in Pete Carroll and restored optimism coming into the 2010 season. The team still has got Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback. Since becoming the starter in 2003, Hasselbeck has led Seattle to five playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in addition to being selected three times for the Pro Bowl. And the team has a strong wide receiver in T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Houshmandzadeh was taken on by the Seattle Seahawks in March of 2009 to a five-year $40 million contract with $15 million assured.

They also have a lot of issues to answer. The Seahawks could be favored in three of their 4 preseason games. They open up by hosting Tennessee on August 14th and they will be favored in NFL preseason odds in that event. They could furthermore be a minor favorite at home in Week 2 vs Green Bay. They'll be long shots at Minnesota in Week 3 although anything is achievable for their preseason finale vs Oakland on September second.

The questions for Seattle in NFL preseason gambling start with Carroll. He was a exceptional coach at USC but he has never won persistently in the NFL. Carroll is setting his trust this season in 35 year old Matt Hasselbeck who has seen better days. If Hasselbeck doesn't get the job done then it's up to Charlie Whitehurst and he doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Whitehurst doesn't have an outstanding history. He simply doesn't have many claims to fame. In return for a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and a trade with the Chargers for a greater 2nd round pick in this year's draft, he was traded to the Seahawks in March of this year. The Seahawks signed him to a two-year, $10 million contract. The Seahawks' confidence in Whitehurst as a quarterback only isn't easily apparent by those facts.

The Seahawks did have a quality draft as they obtained left tackle Russell Okung, free safety Earl Thomas and receiver Golden Tate. They want all three to contribute straight away. The offense also needs to find someone that can run the ball as last year they had nothing.

Last season the defense for Seattle wasn't pretty excellent. They couldn't stop the pass at all. They want cornerback Marcus Trufant to be healthy and they want Thomas to play straight away as a rookie. Aaron Curry, who had a good rookie season, will be with the Seattle Seahawks, and receiving Lofa Tatupu back will help.
