Top NL Contenders Face Off In Friday MLB Wagering

Author : Lynn Smith

Two of the top squads in the National League meet in MLB gambling on Friday as the Philadelphia Phillies host the Cincinnati Reds.

It is the second match of a four-game series. Joe Blanton is scheduled to get the start while the Reds counter with Johnny Cueto. The Phillies will likely be small favorites in baseball gambling.

MLB gambling odds continue to undervalue the Reds this season. Cincinnati is exhibiting that they're a risk to win the National League Central. The Reds have a winning track record at home and on the road this season. Cueto is 8-2 with a 3.56 ERA so he has been strong all year for Cincinnati. He has lost only once since late April. He's 2-0 in his last 3 starts with a 0.45 ERA. He has not pitched well in his career against the Phillies though, going 1-2 with an 8.04 ERA.

Blanton is 3-5 on the season with a 6.27 ERA. He has pitched better of late though. In his last 3 starts he's 1-0 with a 4.57 ERA. He has done nicely in his career vs the Reds going 2-0 with a 3.92 ERA.

The Phillies had won 12 of the last 20 against the Reds before yesterday's match. The squads competed in Cincinnati just over a week ago and the Reds took two of 3 and two of the matches went over the total in baseball gambling. A year ago when they met in Philadelphia, the Phillies took 3 of four.

The Reds are ahead with an offense that is fifth in the league in runs obtained. Although he was not on the All-Star team originally, Joey Votto should make the squad when all is said and done since he's having an All-Star season.

The Phillies are just behind the Reds in terms of runs obtained at 8th in the league. Philadelphia's pitching has been somewhat better than Cincinnati's, although it has not translated to any more wins. The Phillies have been strong at home but not amazing. As they're below .500 on the road, it's their road track record that has hurt them this season. Normally the Phillies are a fantastic road team but thus far this season that has not been the situation and it's one reason why they aren't in 1st place.
