Do Not Rely On Debt Settlement Firms - Top 3 Reasons You Must Know

Author : J.J. Yong

In order to become debt free within a short period of time, many people choose to eliminate their outstanding balances through debt settlement. There are many approaches ones can use to negotiate with their creditors. The debtors can choose to negotiate with their lenders on their own or through debt settlement firms.

Basically, this financial solution involves the negotiation process of between the debtors and the creditors. The debtors have no choice but to request their creditors to reduce their total outstanding balances because they have lost their financial ability to repay their debts due to certain reasons. Seriously speaking, many people find it hard to send their requests to their creditors due to their dignity. They choose to get the debt settlement firms to represent them. Is it really good to get the third party to handle your debt issues?

I strongly disagree with this as I know there are drawbacks which many people are not aware. Let me share with you 3 important points about debt settlement companies.

· Not all these companies are registered members of the Better Business Bureau. Are they really reliable? You are going to disclose all your personal information to the service provider. How can you ensure that your personal details are not being misused? In real life, there are unethical companies which make use of their clients' details for illegal activities.

· In common, most of the debt settlement firms are profit organizations and their services are not free of charge. Since you have been knee deep in debt, why are you burdening yourself with additional financial cost? If you handle the debt negotiation on your own, you don't need to spend a single cent on the service fees.

· When you start taking up the settlement plan, you are normally required by the service provider to deposit your money into one special account on monthly basis until you have saved enough money to pay back your creditors. Have you ever asked yourself whether the settlement company is really trustworthy and your money will be well taken care of? If you are unlucky, you stand a high chance to be trapped by scam and your money will disappear without any notice.

Don't give yourself too much pressure when you are in debt. Tell yourself that you can overcome it easily if you have strong determination and confidence. You don't need a settlement firm to help you. You can handle it on your own successfully if the right techniques are used.
