If you really to think about it, we all use our cars or public transportation a bit more than we should. While I'm not suggesting that you leave the car at home and hobble all the way back from the supermarket carrying heavy grocery bags, there are times in which you drive around when you could easily take a walk instead. So it'll take you 5 extra minutes, so what? You will have burned off some fat and saved some gas money in the process.
Not everyone can run a marathon but we can all move some part of our body. The important thing is to think about movement. Even sedentary people burn more calories by moving around. It may be arm or hand exercises or even exercising the neck but it all adds up. For the more mobile it may mean short walks around the house or walking to take a bus rather than the car. The trick is to keep moving throughout the day. Even wriggling toes or swinging legs adds to calorie output. Look at your day and see what you can do to include movement in your day.
Exercise is also important, and you can benefit from small bouts of exercise. For example, washing dishes, vacuuming, and cooking dinner are all easy ways to burn calories while completing necessary tasks. To encourage additional exercise, you can try wearing a pedometer to measure that amount that you walk. You should also try to walk at a brisk pace wherever you go to up your calorie-burning potential.
Another of the much preferred ways to burn calories is to join a hobby class that gets you to be active and move around the room. For some it is learning a new dance form while for others it is joining a travel or a trekking club. Even if you are not into hard core sports, you can find something that interests you as well as gets you to be more active. The combination of these two has been found to be one of the most successful ways to burn calories.
Studies show that excess television watching and video game usage in children has a bad impact on them. But there are other reasons to get up and play with your children, too. Playing with your kids is a great way to burn calories without even knowing like you are working out at all! Depending on what you do with your children, you can burn anywhere from a few calories to up to 150 calories every ten minutes! Jumping rope, playing catch, or playing tag are some great ways to play with your children and burn calories at the same time. And your kids will thank you for it.
Walk before lunch. Before eating lunch, take a brisk 10-minute walk. This allows the food you eat for lunch to feed your muscles instead of the calories being stored as fat. The brisk walk burns about 50 calories, and reduces the amount of fat left in your body when lunch is over.
