The sports card industry is NOT what it once was.
There used to be a lot of sports card shops all over the place, but now they are far and few between. Some say it's the economy. Some say it's too expensive. Some say kids don't collect anymore because they're into computer games and video games.
However, there are still a "ton" of cards out there to collect from all sports. The "hot" cards to have are rookie cards (first card of a player), game-used cards a.k.a. a piece of a jersey from a player and autograph cards right out of he packs. There are also a limited number of inserts that are distributed within boxes of cards that make them rare and hard to get.
I used to own a sports card shop and for 23+ years, made a business out of it, but because of the tough times economically, had to close it up a few years ago. Today, I have a showcase (#94) at the Ohio Valley Antique Mall on Rt.
4 in Fairfield, Ohio that is filled with cards, bobbleheads representing players from various sports -- and other sports items.
Hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. everyday including Sundays.
I'm NOT there that often, but workers will assist you as all the items in the showcase are priced.
The cards are sold at discounted prices because I buy at wholesale prices and pass the savings down to the customer.
Also, you can take advantage of my contacts to buy players’ cards in bulk. ( Yes we can sell you 100 card lots representing your favorite player or players. ) Our cards feature stars from all sports including Albert Pujols, Derek, Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechckin – to name a few.
So remember, the sports card industry may be down at this time for whatever reason, but there are still plenty of good finds out there for savvy collectors. The fun has not gone away either. It can still be FUN to be a card collector today, just like the good old days when you enjoyed the bubble gum that came with the cards almost as much as the cards themselves.
