Omaha Women's Hospital Has Wall Safes And Waterfalls

Author : Wendy Moyer

When residents of Omaha, Nebraska got their first look at the new Methodist Women's Hospital in early June, some people thought maybe they were in the wrong place because it looked and felt as if they were about to check into a hotel. The hospital is the first women's hospital in the area and it's chock-a-block full of luxury amenities.

Can you imagine entering the lobby of a hospital and being greeted by a cascading waterfall? And, if you want to relax and get in tune with nature being able to gaze into glass enclosed atrium? These are just some of the features of this state of the art hospital.

Stefanie Christensen, 30, who's expecting her second child next month said, "It's beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. All the amenities are really amazing. I'm really excited about coming in because of this place, as strange as that sounds."

Methodist Women's Hospital officially opens its doors on June 21, 2010 and will increase the maternity capacity at Methodist by more than 50%.

Amongst its other amenities are personal wall safes for your valuables, Jacuzzis in some of the labor and delivery rooms, flat-screen televisions, refrigerators, hair dryers, vanities, and luggage racks. And as far as the medical equipment is concerned - well, it's hidden within the cabinets in the room.

Jamie Johns, mentioned that after her husband took a look at the amenities that future fathers will enjoy while spending long hours in the hospital awaiting the birth of their children. When he saw what was available he kept on repeating that he "felt like he was in a hotel."

There's probably a lot to be said about making expectant mothers and fathers as comfortable as possible as they await the birth of their newborn child.

The hospital will also offer an emergency room for women, men, as well as children. Its services will include adult and newborn intensive care, deliveries, and outpatient imaging and radiology.

Costing $120 million, the 126 bed hospital will have more seating for its visitors as well as sleep sofas, twenty four hour room service, wireless internet service, and indoor as well as outdoor dining.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony the Methodist Hospital President and CEO, Steve Goser, said, "The facility before you is the culmination of a decade of careful planning, collaboration and innovation. For us, Methodist Women's Hospital is a dream brought to life."

It's hard to imagine a better place in which to bring a new child into the world.
