Can A Birth Control Product Kill You?

In the latter months of 2009 more than fifty lawsuits were filed in the United States against the manufacturers and/or distributors of birth control products. And many lawsuits have been filed before that timeframe which related to injuries that were suffered because of side effects that were allegedly related to a birth control product.
What sets a lawsuit that was filed in Essex County, New Jersey apart from the others is that it claims a wrongful death was caused by a specific birth control product. The product in question, called NUVARING® releases two synthetic hormones into a woman's body. These substances (etonogestrel, which is a progestin, and ethinyl estradiol, which is an estrogen) are supposed to both minimize the amount of sperm penetration and prevent ovulation. The concept is that the combination of the two will prevent any unwanted pregnancy.
Unlike an oral contraceptive, this is a device that is placed close to the cervix. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved NUVARING® in October 2001.
The allegation in the wrongful death complaint says that the manufacturers and distributors of the product not only knew that there were substantial negative side effects associated with the product, but that they concealed these risks from both the FDA as well as the general public.
What Would You Do If You Took a Birth Control Pill and Shortly Thereafter Got Blood Clots?
Users of this birth control product have reported serious side effects, including deep vein thrombosis, blood clot complications, and possible death.
Blood clots may be extremely dangerous. They can cause break downs in organs and in tissues. Unfortunately, in the cases that were filed, the blood clots led to pulmonary embolisms. The need for an amputation and/or possible death could be possible results of a pulmonary embolism.
Kelly Bozicev began using this product in May, 2007, when she was thirty two years old. She had a seizure in December 2007. She died in transit to the hospital. Her death was a result of deep vein thrombosis in her pelvic veins. This caused a massive pulmonary thromoemoli. Now her husband is taking care of their two young children without her.
Allegedly, NUVARING® was responsible for this unnecessary tragedy.
If you are using any products such as this don't you think you should see your doctor and discuss the dangers as well as alternative means of birth control? Apparently people are dying from using some specific birth control products. Don't add your name to the list of casualties.
