You might even have to make trip to the hospital, and even if you have insurance, sometimes you're required to pay a particular fee to have care. For all of these situations, it helps to have a credit card available. Credit cards can be a safe net for a student who doesn't have ready access to funds in the case of an emergency or unexpected event.
Student credit cards can be, and are often abused. But they can be used responsibly, and are often a essential part of college living. In order to use your student credit card responsibly, make a pact with yourself that you will not use the card to pay for unnecessary purchases like meals out, the latest CDs and fashions, and impulse purchases. Sometimes, though, a credit card can help you feed yourself at the end of a particularly tight month, or if you need to buy a presentable outfit for an interview. Credit cards can be used to pay for necessaries, but try to pay outstanding balances off as soon as doable, or you'll be paying a lot more later.
