As far as city breaks in the UK go, you can't do much better than York. Although its Northern location means you might not get the perfect weather, it is still the perfect city for a romantic, cultural break. You'll need a hotel (York has plenty) because there is simply too much to do in one day.
There really is nowehere that comes close to this small and historical city.It has an unmatched number of charming cobbled streets with everything from large chain stores to small, independent, local shops. As well as all this there is exquisite architecture in the form of the beautiful York Minster and the beautiful river with its many riverside cafes and bars to relax in.
In a city whose heritage is Roman, Viking and medieval all at once, you'd expect a fair few museums: consider a trip to the Jorvik viking centre or the York Dungeon. But there's always the National Railway Museum for a more modern day out.
Further from the hotel, York isn't far from some beautiful countryside in the form of the dales. One venue worth visiting for the green fingered is nearby Harewood house whose exquisite gardens have recently been nominated for an award by a BBC magazine. The local countryside is also perfect for rambling if you're feeling active. You will be able to find out a suggested route form the tourist information office. The best thing about the local countryside's potential for walking, hiking and rambling is that there are many guided walks available. Guided walks are always advised because people who are new to the area could risk getting lost without the guide. The guide will also offer some extra information and insight into the region.
Whatever time of year you visit York there is sure to be something going on in the city. Many festivals, exhibitions and fairs visit the town. Regular markets selling local produce can be found mingling with the races, the railway show and the Viking festival.Check out information from the tourist office to find out about what happens when so that you can plan your visit.
When it comes to finding a hotel, York has great choice.Probably the most luxurious hotel York has is the Alwark Manor Hotel which is set in a beautiful Victorian house. For the visitor who is tired after sight-seeing the spa and golf course there offer the perfect solution for relaxation.
The UK has a wealth of wonderful cities to enjoy mini breaks in. Why not find the best hotel York can offer. Visit http://www.qhotels.co.uk/hotels/aldwark-manor-york-yorkshire.aspx
