When hunting for a new community or neighborhood to settle down in, there are some things that most parents look for. Even if you have already looked at all of the hard statistics about school districts, area cultural activities and crime rates for your area, child-friendly locales are usually identifiable by a few visual cues alone. One of these is the presence of parks and specifically, those with playgrounds.
Every good community should have at least one area with some quality commercial playground equipment available to kids. There are a variety of reasons that park playground equipment is important for children, aside from the fact that just spotting it is reason enough for most kids to get excited.
Playgrounds are important for children to get ample exercise. This is especially important nowadays, due to the prevalence of so many stationary activities like computer and video games that are designed to appeal to even very young kids. Good commercial playground equipment exercises a variety of muscle groups with different features. For instance, monkey bars are great for the arms and shoulders, while legs get a good workout on the swings.
School playground equipment and other recreation areas are also important for socialization skills. Learning to take turns on the slide, pushing one another (nicely) on the swings—believe it or not, these are skills that will help children learn patience, graciousness and other manners that could help them throughout life, stepping stones that teach them to build good relationships with others.
Having a safe place for kids to play is very important, whether it is at school or in a community park. Commercial playground equipment can be purchased inexpensively, and therefore is accessible to every community regardless of economic level, location or need. If your community needs a little bit of help paying for playground equipment, there are grants available to ease costs. Just as important to a child’s physical and mental development as access to a good public library or having healthy meals to eat, a sturdy and attractive playground is a necessity that all children should be able to enjoy.
